Hi’s Tackle Shop Fish Story

In 1981, Hiromu Akagi (aka Hi), opened a small fishing shop in the Inner Richmond District. Hi’s Tackle Box has been a hub for customers and manufacturers from all over the globe who seek out innovative advice about products like fishing line materials, professional reel design, and composite rod construction. Find out more about Hi’s Tackle Box.

Hi’s Tackle Box was founded by Hiromu Akagi (aka Hi), in 1981 in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond District on Geary Boulevard. Hi’s gained a loyal clientele quickly and served not only the local anglers but also the long-range fisherman of Baja and San Diego.

Hi taught Jonah Li the ropes of fishing in 1982. Jonah was soon promoted to shop manager because of his dedication.

He decided to retire in 1988, and he sold his shop to Jonah. Jonah, aka Hippo, sought Steven Lau to join his new venture and took over the shop. Hi’s Tackle Shop has been the most popular in San Francisco Bay Area since that time. Hi’s has seen many employees come and go, each one adding to the knowledge and experience of the shop.

Hi’s Tackle Box relocated to Clement Street in 1992. It continued to grow and serve the fishing community. We moved the shop to the Peninsula in December 2008.

Hi’s is the preferred place for tackle manufacturers looking for design advice and innovative ideas. Hi’s is well-known for its products, such as line construction and rod and reel design.

Hi’s Tackle Box’s new online shop, Hi’s Tackle Box’s, allows Hi’s to share its knowledge with a wider audience. We are a brick-and-mortar shop, and we invite you to visit us when you’re in the area. Even if you are unable to make it in person, our friendly service can be reached at merely a telephone call.
